Announcement: BAT/Brave partnership with Gemini — new withdrawal option for BAT creators now live (including in NY state), plus Gemini widget in Brave!

We are excited to announce that Gemini and Brave have partnered to make it easier for users to buy, sell, store, and earn crypto when using the Brave browser. This integration allows users of the Brave browser to engage with crypto via the new Gemini Trading Widget in a simple and secure manner. The Gemini Trading Widget is now available in Brave’s Nightly version, and will go live in Brave’s general release in the coming weeks.

Brave provides users with a better Internet experience by giving them back their privacy. The Brave browser blocks ads and trackers and other identifying software used by websites to monitor visitors. This provides a faster (3-6x) and more private Internet experience. Brave users can also earn Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) by opting in to view privacy-preserving Brave ads. Online creators can earn BAT from Brave users via Brave Rewards by publishing great content across a range of platforms including YouTube, Twitter, Vimeo, Github, Twitch, or their own website.

Guest AMA: We’re Sam Kazemian (Co-Founder & President) and David Liebowitz (VP of Business Development) at Everipedia, a blockchain-based digital encyclopedia & project building world-class consumer dApps and DeFi apps. Ask us anything!

Sam Kazemian, Co-Founder & President, and David Liebowitz, VP of Business Development, from Everipedia joined us on r/BATProject this week to answer community questions about Everipedia, chat about its work with Brave, and to share more about the team’s latest project, PredIQt: a decentralized prediction market offering a user-experience that rivals that of traditional centralized alternatives.

About Everipedia:
Everipedia builds world-class consumer dApps and defi applications. What originally launched in 2014 as an inclusive encyclopedia would grow out of its original mandate of just being a website and transform into a full-blown blockchain ecosystem. In 2018, Everipedia raised funds from Galaxy Digital to build a blockchain version of Everipedia which would launch in the summer of that year. Staying true to its mission of the pursuit of knowledge, in 2019 the Everipedia team launched PredIQt, a decentralized prediction market that is the “Augur of EOS.” Everipedia and PredIQt are two different sides to the same coin whereas the former has participants contributing their historical knowledge and the latter tests participants “future knowledge” in anticipating the outcome of events. The foundation of this dual dApp ecosystem is the IQ token whose utility is required in order to use Everipedia and PredIQt. Everipedia has stated its commitment to decentralized finance and plans to release a suite of defi primitives (lending/interest, synthetic assets, etc.) as well as an ERC-20 version of its token by the end of the year.

BAT/Brave in the News

Yahoo News: Brave partners with Gemini to let users trade crypto from within its browser

Brave has partnered with crypto exchange Gemini to let its  users trade cryptocurrencies from within the privacy-focused browser itself.

Users will be able to buy, trade, earn, and store cryptocurrencies directly via Brave. The Gemini widget is currently available on Brave’s Nightly version, and is expected to go live in Brave’s general release “in the coming weeks,” said Gemini.

The news comes three months after similar partnerships were struck with Binance and Binance.US.  Brave’s native token, the Basic Attention Token (BAT), is listed on all three exchanges.

The Register: Aggrieved ad tech types decry Google dominance in W3C standards – who writes the rules and for whom?

Earlier this week, 20 web advertising companies wrote to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)’s Advisory Board to ask that the standards organization revise its governance process to prevent ad tech giants like Google from running roughshod over the concerns of others with an interest in the web.

“We believe that the W3C governance process aims to represent all stakeholders of the web,” the letter says. “Unfortunately, as the web has grown in size, a disparity in organizational size now threatens this governance process.”

In an email to The Register, Peter Snyder, privacy researcher at rival browser maker Brave Software, said, “Brave is concerned that Google has a disproportionate role in web standards, and as a result, that the direction of the web could disproportionately reflect Google’s priorities.”

Where Google’s interests align with web users, he said, everyone benefits. But where they diverge, specifically with regard to issues like privacy, tracking, and allowing individuals to understand and control the code executing on their devices, the company’s outsize role in shaping web standards becomes an issue.

BTC Manager: Brave Browser’s Privacy-Preserving Ads to Spearhead Marketing Campaign

Brave and Travala Kicks off a Global Advertisement Campaign

Just like any other web browser, Brave users can surf the Internet on-demand.

However, the Brave browser goes a step further by shielding their privacy without storing web history or personal details.

Meanwhile, their innovative Brave Ads platform provides brands with the opportunity to reach a consenting audience.

Effective, willing users can activate Brave Ads and earn BAT rewards whenever they view advertisements from partner brands.

Brendan Eich, the CEO and Co-founder of Brave said the browser currently runs over 1,500 advertisement campaigns with a click-through-rate of 12 percent translating to better conversion rates. The industry’s average is two percent.

70 percent of the revenue generated will be distributed to viewers as compensation for their attention. Users can also reward content creators by auto-contributing under the browser’s default setting.

Through this deal, Travala adverts will now be pushed through Brave Ads. Viewers will receive rewards in BAT whenever they view their advertisements.

The Tatiana Show Ep. 265: Healthcare and the Blockchain with Chrissa McFarlane

About the Tatiana Show

“The Tatiana Show” podcast talks about politics, activism, blockchain, music, and how to combine them all to help the world. Tatiana Moroz, co-host Joshua Scigala, and special guests chat about all kinds of exciting topics from technology, the arts, and the Bitcoin revolution in a casual conversation that a layman can understand.  The show tapes weekly and airs over several networks including Let’s Talk Bitcoin,,, ipmNation, and many more.  The show was founded in 2014 and averages over 5,000 listeners per show.

Chrissa McFarlane realized the world has a very big problem: the healthcare industry is slow to innovate and inefficient. Nothing in recent memory has made this more clear than the current COVID-19 pandemic. Global response to the coronavirus was, without a doubt, hampered by misinformation and slow communication and a lack of cooperation when it came to setting standards for gathering, recording, and sharing data.

Patientory plans to make a big dent in this big problem. With a background in research, healthcare operations, and data management, McFarlane is dedicated to educating regulators and healthcare leaders about the urgent need for data management solutions across the entire healthcare industry, from pharmaceutical supply chain management to digital health & therapeutics, to telemed practices and  drug and clinical trial data management

Chrissa also offers some great advice to women and minorities looking to start their own company or to work in STEM, as well as ways to cope with encountering racism and sexism in professional settings.

2020 US Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang on Twitter: – “Advertising as an all-purpose revenue source has massive drawbacks, limitations and even perversions for the attention economy. The Block: Twitter accounts of major tech figures, crypto exchanges and Joe Biden compromised in far-reaching attack

Quick Take

  • A wide range of Twitter accounts were compromised Wednesday, including crypto exchanges and companies as well as major figures like Joe Biden, Bill Gates and Elon Musk.
  • The tweets posted variations on the same theme: promoting bitcoin/crypto giveaway scams, which try and trick people into sending funds to an address in the hope of receiving more.
  • Twitter said it was a “coordinated social engineering attack” by hackers “who successfully targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and tools.”

[Week in Ethereum News]: Bankless: Global Public Goods and The Protocol Sink Thesis

Ethereum is a platform for Global Public Goods in the realm of Money and Finance.

The Protocol Sink Thesis illustrates how applications move from being financial experiments to unstoppable global financial platforms, used by everyone. The more people use an application, the further down in the Protocol Sink it falls, and the more things collect at the bottom of the Protocol Sink, the stronger Ethereum’s gravitational grows.

The Protocol Sink Thesis offers a model for how crypto-systems will manifest at maturity.

The thesis states that the more trustless, permissionless, and credibly neutral a protocol is, the further it can scale itself to a global platform, and as a consequence, absorb a larger amount of capital. Protocols that offer a platform to build upon become ‘dense’, and fall down to the bottom of the Protocol Sink from the collective weight of the people and companies building on them.

Web3 DeFi protocols like Uniswap, Compound, and Maker will survive in the long-term by removing attack-vectors and gaining anti-fragility, which will allow them to break through the limits on the scale of use that Web2 applications have reached.

Two key features predict where a protocol finds its resting-place in the Protocol Sink: Utility and Surface Area.
